Windows Live China Windows Live (China) (the former MSN Technologies China) is one of the three core business divisions at Microsoft. Started in 1995, Windows Live provided dial-up Internet access in the US and obtained one million users within a few months. Since then, Windows Live has launched a series of services for both business customers and consumer users. These include MSNBC in 1996, a joint-venture with NBC that operates traditional TV channels and interactive online information portals, and a web-based email service called Hotmail in 1997. Windows Live started offering localized versions of regional portal in 1998. Since 1999, Windows Live launched Messenger, an instant communication service, MSN Mobile, MSN Search, MSN Music, MSN Games, MSN Communities, VoIP, Classified, and MSN Spaces. Windows Live now serves customers throughout the world in more than twenty different languages. It has 200 million Hotmail users and close to 200 million Messenger users. It handles 100 million searches each day. In May of 2005, Windows Live officially launched its Chinese portal msn.com.cn, thus bringing a more comprehensive set of services to the many users who already use Chinese versions of Messenger and Hotmail. Besides nurturing China’s internet ecosystem, Windows Live (China) now serves as a global extension of Windows Live in planning and building competitive Windows Live products. Publicly announcing its formation in July of 2005, with development hubs in Beijing and Shanghai, it aims to accelerate the research and development of technologies and products that are targeted at both the worldwide market and Asian markets. We have successfully shipped PS Mail, Build Tracker, Windows Live Ideas, MSN Mobile Service, Music Mix, MSN Search SDK, MSCOM Search, Windows Live Mail, MSN Calendar, Spaces and Windows Live Favorites since our formation. Some of our active projects include Safety & Content Filtering, Messenger, Search, Spaces, Tools, Shopping, Hotmail and Calendar.
